Churches of San Martino and San Pietro

The Church of San Martino is one of the oldest religious buildings in Erice and, according to tradition, was founded by Roger the Norman after the conquest of the town. It played an important role in both civic and religious life.

The restrained façade is enriched by a Baroque portal and sculptures of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Inside, monolithic grey-marble columns divide the church into three aisles.

The historic meeting room known as the Congrega is decorated with Serpotta-inspired stucco work and frescoes by the Manno brothers, and contains a finely carved seventeenth-century wooden altar.
